- Located in beautiful Pine Grove Furnace State Park,
Hostelling International - Ironmaster's Mansion was built in 1829 as the home of the
Ironmaster of the Pine Grove Furnace Ironworks. The ironworks manufactured cannonballs
during the Revolutionary War, and the hostel was a stop on the Underground Railroad for
sheltering runaway slaves. It is an official National Historical
Preservation site.
-
The hostel is located on the Appalachian Trail. Pine Grove Furnace State Park is
crisscrossed by bike trails for both mountain bikes and 10-speeds and has lakes and
streams for fishing, boating and swimming. In the winter, great cross-country skiing starts right
at the hostel's front porch. Alpine skiing is also nearby. Historic Gettysburg and its
battlefield are 23 miles away. Kings
Gap Environmental Center is 7 miles from Youth Hostel.
Great
place for groups of all ages & retreats!
